Ideas for Future KVNC-USA Projects

We are encouraged by our successes and by the many people and organizations that want to help Kuntu village.  The KVNC-USA mission will continue to focus on youth, education and self-sufficiency in Kuntu.  Sponsoring university study in Ghana or America and high school student exchanges may be considered.  Our self-sufficiency mission may include credit union concepts to help home businesses create jobs and income in Kuntu.

Children Recreation Area

Healthy play and sports are important components of education.  Kuntu youth do not have a safe place to play at recess or to participate in sports with other schools at their school.  The Bucks County (PA) Chapter of Links, Inc. is interested in purchasing equipment and designing a primary school playground.

Primary school playground and JSS basketball court

This is the road leading to the JSS school and a planned site of a JSS sport field.  Dirt was added from nearby road construction but there was no funding for a sports field.  Because of the high cost to level grade the field, create drainage to prevent erosion and to import soil and grass, this project is seeking a major donor and/or government help.  The yellow building on the left is the JSS building.  The white buildings, barely seen on the right, are the teacher bungalows

Village Toilets

In December 2006, Nana Baffoe learned that the Kuntu village community toilets were filled to capacity or collapsed.  Pits for new toilets had been constructed but construction of the new toilet building was halted due to a lack of funds.  Nana Baffoe was told that if the building materials could be provided, the building could be constructed with communal labor.  Nana Baffoe committed KVNC-USA to purchase cement for cement blocks.  Unfortunately, the cement was used for another project the toilet project was again abandoned and the new pits collapsed.  Toilets will be a high priority future KVNC-USA project.

Pineapple Cooperative

A group of Kuntu farmers have formed a co-operative to grow pineapples.  Nana Brebo has released over 50 acres to them for pineapples and more land is available.  The farmers need over $100,000 USD to purchase machinery for pineapple production.  The KVNC-USA will assist them in applications for advisors, partners and investors.

Sister City

Ghana is a democracy with a popularly elected president and a 2 chamber parliament.  Each region (equivalent to our states) is divided into districts headed by an appointed district chief executive.  Village chiefs are responsible for the welfare of their village and with village sub-chiefs and elders handle most civil and land related matters.  Mr. Quainoo-Arthur is the current district chief executive of the Mfantseman district.   Mr. Quainoo-Arthur asked if an American city might be encouraged to adopt the Mfantseman district as a sister city.  Both the district and the U.S.  sister city could benefit by the sister city donating surplus and used education items to Mfantseman villages.  KVNC-USA believes that there may be individuals, politicians or organizations interested in a Mfantseman sister city as alternative to our model to help a small Ghanaian village.
